Work from home Full-time role Hiring

About arenaflex

At arenaflex, we believe that data is the heartbeat of every smart business decision. As a forward-thinking technology and analytics organization operating at the intersection of cloud computing, big data, and operational intelligence, arenaflex partners with leading enterprises to design and build the data infrastructure that powers their next chapter of growth. Our teams collaborate across geographies, disciplines, and industries, bringing together engineers, analysts, and strategists who share a common passion for turning raw information into transformative insight.

We are proud to cultivate a workplace where curiosity is celebrated, innovation is rewarded, and every team member has a genuine voice in shaping the future of our platform. Our engineers don't just write code or move data from point A to point B — they architect the foundations upon which entire businesses make decisions, serve customers, and outpace the competition. If you are an experienced data professional looking for a remote opportunity that combines technical depth, strategic impact, and a culture of mentorship, arenaflex wants to hear from you.

To strengthen our growing Technology organization, arenaflex is hiring multiple Senior Data Engineers across several internal teams. Each team contributes to a different mission-critical initiative, and our recruiting team will share team-specific details during the interview process. The roles are offered as remote positions, with occasional travel expected for onboarding, team gatherings, and strategic planning sessions.

Position Overview

The Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex is a senior individual contributor who combines deep technical expertise with cross-functional leadership. In this role, you will take ownership of the most complex data challenges facing our organization, designing and implementing scalable pipelines, mentoring fellow engineers, and partnering with stakeholders across Product, Design, Analytics, and Executive leadership. You will be the trusted technical authority who translates ambiguous business questions into robust, well-engineered data solutions — and you will help shape the long-term data strategy of arenaflex in the process.

This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives in environments that demand both hands-on technical craftsmanship and strategic thinking. You will work with modern cloud infrastructure, primarily on AWS, leveraging SQL, Python, and a variety of modern data tooling to deliver high-quality, reliable, and well-documented data products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and Build Scalable Data Infrastructure: Design, develop, and maintain large, complex data sets and pipelines that satisfy both functional business requirements and non-functional requirements such as performance, security, scalability, and reliability.
  • Lead Process Improvement Initiatives: Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements — including re-platforming existing infrastructure for greater elasticity, improving data delivery speed, and automating manual workflows that currently slow down the business.
  • Engineer Robust ETL/ELT Pipelines: Build the required infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of sources using AWS services and SQL technologies.
  • Develop Analytical Tools and Dashboards: Construct analytical tooling and data products that surface meaningful insight into key business performance metrics, including operational efficiency, customer acquisition, retention, and revenue growth.
  • Partner with Cross-Functional Stakeholders: Collaborate closely with Data, Design, Product, and Executive teams to understand their data needs, support their analytical initiatives, and resolve complex data-related technical issues.
  • Provide Technical Mentorship and Guidance: Lead by example and serve as a subject matter expert for functional project teams. Participate in cross-functional initiatives and offer guidance to help establish best practices, standards, and architectural patterns.
  • Engage with External Vendors and Partners: Work with a variety of external vendors, helping to equip them with effective data solutions, integrations, and insights that strengthen our ecosystem.
  • Apply Independent Judgment: Use independent judgment within broadly defined policies and practices to determine the best methods, techniques, and approaches for achieving engineering and business objectives.
  • Innovate and Adapt Technology to Customer Needs: Create or adapt tools, platforms, and technology to better serve both internal and external customer needs.
  • Support Broader Team Objectives: Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by leadership, contributing to the overall success of the Technology organization at arenaflex.

Essential Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
  • U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the United States is required. Please note: arenaflex is unable to provide current or future work visa sponsorship for this position.
  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer, Senior Data Engineer, or in a similar role, with demonstrated success in building and operating large-scale data pipelines.
  • Strong proficiency with AWS cloud services and the modern AWS data ecosystem (such as S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, EMR, Kinesis, or similar).
  • Advanced SQL skills, including the ability to write complex, performant queries and to design efficient data models.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT design patterns, data warehousing concepts, and data modeling techniques.

Preferred Qualifications and Differentiators

  • Experience with Python, Scala, or another modern programming language commonly used in data engineering.
  • Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, AWS Step Functions, or similar workflow managers.
  • Exposure to data lake architectures, data mesh concepts, or modern streaming frameworks.
  • Prior experience working in a senior or lead capacity, mentoring junior engineers, and setting technical direction for a team.
  • Background supporting analytics, business intelligence, or product analytics functions with a strong customer-centric mindset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Engineering Acumen: Deep knowledge of engineering science and technology, including the ability to apply principles, techniques, procedures, and tools to the design and delivery of data products and services.
  • Design Sensibility: Familiarity with design techniques, tools, and principles involved in producing precise technical plans, blueprints, diagrams, and models.
  • Analytical Reasoning: Ability to use logic and structured reasoning to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to complex problems.
  • Forward-Thinking Judgment: Capacity to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Problem Detection and Resolution: Skilled in identifying complex issues, assessing related information, developing and evaluating options, and implementing effective solutions. Ability to recognize when something is wrong or likely to go wrong, even before the issue fully manifests.
  • Pattern Recognition and Synthesis: Ability to combine fragments of information to form general rules or conclusions, including the ability to identify relationships among seemingly unrelated events.
  • Multi-Source Agility: Comfortable moving back and forth between multiple activities or sources of information (such as speech, sounds, touch, or other inputs) without losing focus or accuracy.
  • Structured Ordering: Ability to arrange things or actions in a specific order or pattern according to a particular rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, images, or mathematical operations).
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to identify or detect a known pattern (a figure, object, word, or sound) that is hidden within other distracting material.

Work Environment and Location

This role is offered as a remote workplace position, allowing you to do the majority of your work from a home office. You should expect occasional travel for training, team meetings, interviews, and strategic planning sessions. Please note that while this is a remote position, there are a limited number of states and territories where arenaflex is unable to support regular off-site work. Currently, the ineligible locations are: Alaska, Delaware, New Jersey, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Candidates must reside in and be authorized to work from a U.S. state outside of this list.

Specific compensation packages may vary depending on the candidate's experience, skills, and the team to which they are ultimately matched.

  • Community Engagement: Paid time off and resources to support volunteering and community involvement.
  • Remote Work Stipends: Support for home office setup and ongoing remote work needs.

You will have access to a rich library of internal training resources, a generous certification reimbursement program, and opportunities to contribute to open-source projects and industry publications. We invest in our engineers because we know that their growth directly fuels the growth of our platform, our customers, and our business.
