The Opportunity

As a Senior Server/Backend Engineer at Spry Fox, you will play a critical role in designing and building the backend services and game servers for our upcoming MMO game. You will work closely with a talented team of artists, designers, and engineers to bring this game to life. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the scalability, security, and performance of our game servers and backend services.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and Architecture: Design and architect both backend services and game servers for a large-scale, peaceful MMO game.
• Collaboration: Work closely with artists, designers, and other engineers to implement new game features across server and backend service layers.
• Scalability and Performance: Oversee web service and game server infrastructure (and scaling) across multiple machines and processes, ensuring maximum uptime and a smooth player experience.
• Security: Ensure the security of the studio's publicly available services and game servers.
• Data Processing: Design and maintain systems that handle data from thousands of requests per second across multiple servers.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python, containerization, container orchestration, and SQL databases.
• MMO Experience: Experience with at least one shipped MMO project and a deep understanding of the entire tech stack.
• Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams, including artists, designers, and engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

• C++: Familiarity with C++ and experience with implementing and improving gameserver features (such as networking and data storage).
• Unreal Engine: Experience with Unreal Engine would be a bonus.
