Engineering Manager, SevenRooms - Restaurant Operations
About the Team SevenRooms is a hospitality technology platform that powers restaurant operations and marketing, and was recently acquired by DoorDash! The SevenRooms product enables operators to automatically drive revenue & profitability by leveraging data to build direct relationships, deliver exceptional experiences, and increase repeat business. The SevenRooms “In-Store” Technology organization at DoorDash is committed to building products that help restaurants create magical experiences every day. We are a small, but rapidly growing team of 70+ engineers, scientists and builders who are on a mission to fundamentally transform the hospitality industry. Our tech stack includes Python, Typescript, ReactJS, Redux, Django, App Engine, Cloud Firestore, Memcache, Cloud Tasks, Firebase, BigQuery, Elasticsearch, and more.
About the Role
In this role, you’ll lead a team of engineers through a pivotal stage of growth, helping scale systems, processes, and culture as SevenRooms transitions from start-up to scale-up. You’ll be responsible for shipping products customers love, championing engineering excellence, and fostering a high-performing, collaborative environment. With a focus on simplicity and scalability, you’ll solve complex problems, drive long-term product outcomes, and model strong communication and leadership skills across the organization; and more specifically the restaurant operations group. The restaurant operations group is responsible for the core technologies powering table management, reservations, waitlist, and availability, and other key workflows that restaurants use to power their operations. - Build Products Customers Love. Collaborate closely with Product and cross-functional teams to understand customer needs, advocate for impactful solutions, and actively shape the product roadmap.
- Own Technical Direction. Lead architectural decisions and own the technology stack for your team. Design scalable systems, review code, and contribute hands-on when needed to drive innovation and ensure technical excellence.
- Champion Software Quality. Ensure the team builds reliable, high-performing, and maintainable software that scales with the growth of the business and meets the needs of thousands of users.
- Lead with Vision. Provide your team with clear direction and purpose. Align engineering efforts with business priorities, customer goals, and technical risks, while keeping your team energized and focused.
- Coach and Develop Engineers. Invest in your team’s growth by providing feedback, setting goals, and supporting both high performers and those in need of guidance. Use candid, constructive communication to foster career development.
- Foster Strong Collaboration. Build trusted relationships across the organization. Know when to lead, when to support, and when to step back—serving as a valued thought partner to peers across Engineering and beyond.
We’re excited about you because…
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent
- You have 7+ years of industry experience, including minimum of 2 years of management experience
- You have experience managing product engineering teams with Backend, Frontend Engineers, and mobile engineers
- You bring in strong product sense and can be a thought partner with cross-functional peers
- You have hands-on experience working with non-technical stakeholders, cross-team collaboration, and building scalable products in a fast-paced environment
- You have the ability to handle ambiguity and work with product and business partners to collect non-technical requirements to design and build scalable experience solutions.
- You have the ability to guide and grow an excellent engineering team in a rapidly changing business environment
