About You You have a proven track record of leading data engineering and data availability at scale. You are a hands-on engineer with architecture and leadership skills. You also understand how to care for and support the people around you. You establish processes for data capture, data availability, reporting, and analysis. You have built and scaled ML Ops and supported real world ML solutions in production. You have a track record of analyzing teams and systems and identifying the path to a stable and reliable data team, infrastructure, and tools. You have a vision for how data informs the business and you can navigate conversations with all levels of the organization. You can pivot quickly between being a teacher and being a student. You are humble with a sense of humor and don’t take yourself too seriously. You have been working in or dreamed of working in the gaming industry and are ready to turn your talents towards chess! What you'll do
- Collaborate across multiple teams to define and execute the data engineering roadmap
- Define and launch tools to support capturing user data
- Build and launch data pipelines, ML Ops, and automations
- Build our data warehouse to meet data quality and availability goals
- Define and launch tools to support data access and analysis
- Build the data engineering team
- Improve our operational quality initiatives such as monitoring, alerting, and performance
- Support and improve our business performance initiatives that leverage user data, experiments, and ML
- Support and improve our software and architecture quality initiatives around data capture, processing pipelines, and ML Ops
- Architect and launch services that deliver value at massive scale
Big Challenges
- We have a MASSIVE amount of games to store
- We have a MASSIVE amount of analysis being done on games
- We have a MASSIVE amount of activity to be logged and aggregated for analytics and real-time personalization
Preferred Skills
- Strong collaboration and communication skills working in a fully distributed team
- Experience with data pipelines and data warehouse technologies in one or more modern cloud environments (GCP, etc)
- Experience with the full lifecycle for ML from conception to steady state in production
- Experience with SQL and multiple databases (MySQL, MongoDB, etc)
- Hands on experience in application development in one or all of Java, Python, PHP, or Golang
- Data aggregation and data visualization experience
- Knowledge of finance, marketing, and community departments
- Sense of ownership and responsibility
- Chess player
- Lifelong learner
