About the position The Secondary Teacher is responsible for providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned. The primary goal is to help students fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will enable students to develop competencies and skills necessary to function successfully in society while adhering to all board policies, state and federal laws, and district expectations. Continuous professional learning throughout the teacher's career is also emphasized. The teacher will develop lesson plans and strategies that align with the district curriculum and design assessments that correspond with the instruction provided. This role requires a strong understanding of the core academic subject area assigned, as well as general knowledge of curriculum and instruction. The teacher must possess the ability to instruct students effectively and manage their behavior, demonstrating strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of special education laws as they relate to students in the general education classroom is also essential. A minimum of one year of student teaching or an approved internship is required to ensure competency in the role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.

  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.

  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.

,

  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in individual Education Plans (IEP).

,

  • Work with other members of staff to determine instruction goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.

,

  • Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.

,

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

,

  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.

  • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.

,

  • Create classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

,

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

,

  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

,

  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

,

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

,

  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

,

  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.

,

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned.

,

  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.

,

  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned.

,

  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

,

  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
