Role Overview
We’re a small backend team at KeyMe Locksmiths powering the key cutting kiosks you find across the country. Your main focus will be owning and improving backend services — keeping systems reliable, maintaining solid data, and modernizing legacy systems and applications. We value straightforward, honest communication — if you hit a roadblock, we want to hear about it so we can solve it together. What You’ll Do
- Maintain, scale and improve critical backend services supporting our kiosks and business operations
- Collaborate closely with other engineers, business stakeholders, QA, and hardware teams
- Write clean, scalable code and own the full lifecycle from development to deployment
- Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve system reliability and performance
- Contribute to architecture and design decisions as we evolve our backend landscape
- Participate actively in team communication, standups, and sprint planning
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years backend engineering experience, ideally with some exposure to both Ruby/Rails and Go.
- Strong ownership mentality and clear, honest communication skills
- Comfortable working in a small team where you’ll wear multiple hats and directly impact the business
- Experience with Postgres or relational databases and building APIs
- Ability to break down complex problems and find practical solutions
- Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and adapt quickly
- You have strong programming related opinions but are also willing to discuss tradeoffs and adapt to the current situation and problem
- Bonus: experience with microservices architecture, containerized deployments (Kubernetes), or AI-related projects
