Ontario, Canada Job Family Group: Discipline Engineering Worker Type: Regular Posting Start Date: January 15, 2025 Business unit: Downstream and Renewables Experience Level: Experienced Professionals Job Description: What's the role: • Reporting to the Reliability Manager, the Instrumentation Maintenance Specialist plays a key role in maximizing the reliability of production, regulatory-based, safety instrumented systems. • Provides day-to-day technical support to the maintenance execution process – troubleshooting, planning, coordination, and execution – for a range of instrumentation activities. • Provides direction and support to the site instrumentation care plans and continuous improvement efforts. • Strong understanding of the installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of instrumentation, with a focus on effective and efficient delivery. Responsibilities: • Requires a high degree of flexibility while working on a wide range of instrumentation operation and maintenance issues. • Daily repair support to maintenance including job scopes, field, and shop support. • Works with maintenance in the field to understand potential reliability issues during repairs and recommends potential preventive and predictive measures. • Works with production in the field to assist with operator awareness, ensuring applicable operator rounds are correct and consistent. • Support maintenance planners, schedulers, and preventive maintenance (PM) procedures in driving the maintenance execution (ME) process. • Reviewing equipment inventory management reports and data, providing recommendations for new and revised bills of materials (BOMs). • Provide technical assurance for instrument repairs including overhaul and project commissioning. • Perform quality assurance visits to shops for instrumentation repairs. • The primary representative for instrumentation reliability issues, escalating to I&E Maintenance Engineer for further support. • Support review and auditing instrumentation maintenance procedures, as needed. • Support Maintenance Team Lead (MTL) with reliability-related training and coaching requirements. • Assist in project specific training of instrumentation during project commissioning activities. • Lead on-site instrumentation training with operation, emphasizing what is normal. • Audit, update and report on instrumentation PM program. • Technical and maintainability input into overall pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up for new site projects. • Key field technical representative in all Pitstops and Turnarounds. • Review project packages for design, maintainability, and equipment specifications of proposed plant modifications. • Initiate or review simple Manage of Changes (MOCs) to support safety impairment mitigations. • Support instrumentation-related Threat Mitigation Action Plans (TMAPs) and Incident Management investigations and actions. • As required, assigned actions from the Manage Threats and Opportunities (MTO) process. • As required, participate in incident investigations including failure analysis and causal investigations. • Foster the use of 5 causal reasoning questions (5CRQ) in determining the cause of instrumentation failures. • Support, review and input into the SIS (Safety Instrumented System) and HEMP work processes. Dimensions: • No direct report/s or budget accountability • Support and influence on site routine, non-routine, infrastructure, pitstop and turnaround maintenance budgets. • Accountable for personal spending in the Reliability Department budget. • This role may require membership in site Emergency Operation Centre (EOC), requiring on-call duties. • Off-hours response to operational difficulties and large time commitment during planned and unplanned outages. Skills & Knowledge: • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer. • Must have an Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology (ICET) Diploma (or equivalent/greater education). • Knowledge of key areas of instrumentation technology, including flow, level, temperature, pressure, control valves and analyzers. • Knowledge of safe instrumentation practices and procedures, and appropriate codes. • Broad exposure in refinery operations and maintenance, with a minimum 10-years relevant experience in the instrumentation and control discipline. • Ability to self-manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and have relevant experience in a unionized work environment. Must be cognizant of the roles that each skilled trade performs and how they correlate. • Must have familiarity with the Projects and Management of Change work processes.
