About the position As Spotify's Head of Intellectual Property, you will be responsible for managing the company's patent and trademark risk while overseeing the protection of the company's technology and brands. This role involves driving the strategy and execution of our patent, trademark, and copyright portfolios, providing IP counseling, and handling disputes related to intellectual property.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the strategy and execution of our patent and trademark portfolio

,

  • Advise on what inventions to protect and how best to protect them, working with internal patent engineers and external patent counsel

,

  • Oversee our trademark enforcement program

,

  • Review and assess incoming patent license demands and patent infringement allegations

,

  • Develop freedom to operate strategies

,

  • Draft cease and desist letters and other correspondence relating to infringement of intellectual property, and handle resolution of routine matters as the primary point of contact with adversarial parties

,

  • Work closely and cross-functionally with other members of the Spotify legal team to provide hard IP input on product counseling and transactional matters

Requirements

  • Law degree (or equivalent) from a top-tier law school

,

  • 10+ years of experience in intellectual property, including at both a law firm and in-house, preferably at a tech company

,

  • Member of good standing of at least one US state bar and qualified to practice as in-house counsel in the State of New York

,

  • Tech-savvy with the ability to quickly learn and understand cutting-edge technology

,

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure

,

  • Self-motivated with the ability to identify and prioritize work without instruction

,

  • Experience drafting IP provisions for transactions including both commercial and M&A

,

  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally
