[Remote] Procurement Director - Utility Scale Solar & BESS
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Veritas Partners is a rapidly-growing renewable energy developer and Independent Power Producer (IPP) with 3 GW of utility scale solar and BESS in operation and development. The Procurement Director will lead and manage the end-to-end procurement strategy for large utility scale solar and battery storage projects, overseeing sourcing, vendor negotiation, and logistics procurement.
Responsibilities
- Leads and oversees sourcing, vendor negotiation, contract management, and material logistics for critical components, including solar modules, inverters, transformers, switchgear, battery systems, and EPC services
- Oversee end-to-end procurement execution, including purchase order issuance, contract management, and delivery coordination
- Ensure procurement processes are compliant, well-documented, and aligned with internal controls and governance standards
- Manage logistics procurement, including transportation and storage solutions, ensuring on-time delivery to project sites
- Coordinate equipment allocation and scheduling with internal stakeholders
- Partners cross-functionally with development, engineering, project management, construction, legal, finance, and logistics teams to ensure procurement strategies align with project timelines, cost objectives, and company goals
- Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of procurement professionals across strategic sourcing and operational buying functions
- Develop and execute upstream sourcing strategies to secure supply, optimize commercial terms, and establish preferred supplier relationships ahead of project demand
- Drive strategic procurement initiatives aligned with project development and construction objectives
- Serve as a subject matter expert on supply chain trends, technology evolution, pricing dynamics, and regulatory impacts
- Lead sourcing and negotiation of high-value supply agreements for major equipment categories, including EPC Contractors, PV modules, BESS, inverters, trackers, transformers, and breakers
- Issue, manage, and evaluate RFIs/RFQs/RFPs, conduct supplier assessments, and negotiate commercial terms and risk allocation
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to improve performance, reliability, and total cost of ownership
- Manage quality control programs, manufacturing inspections, and third-party audit services
- Partner with development, engineering, project management, construction, legal, and finance teams to align procurement with project needs
- Support technical reviews, contract approvals, and change order management processes
- Ensure procured equipment meets performance, reliability, and bankability standards
- Maintain and communicate market intelligence on pricing trends, supplier capacity, tariffs, and supply chain risks
- Develop forward-looking cost forecasts and product roadmaps based on market analysis and supplier insights
- Provide regular reporting to senior leadership on procurement activities, project status, risks, and opportunities
- Track contractual obligations, delivery schedules, and supplier performance metrics
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance procurement efficiency and reduce costs
- Develop and maintain procurement policies, procedures, and standard work
- Implement and manage procurement systems, tools, and vendor databases (e.g., ERP, SharePoint, Firmex)
- Manage RFP processes, supplier performance evaluations, and total cost of ownership (TCO) assessments
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field
- 7 to 10+ years of procurement experience within the energy, construction, or renewable energy industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Proven experience in utility-scale solar, energy storage, or substation project procurement
- Strong knowledge of EPC contracts, supply agreements, Incoterms, and logistics
- Exceptional negotiation and communication skills
- Deep understanding of global supply chain dynamics and risk mitigation strategies
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Experience working for an IPP or EPC contractor in the renewable energy sector
- Experience managing procurement in volatile supply chain environments and evolving regulatory/trade conditions
- Background in strategic category management and capital project support
- Familiarity with international trade, import/export regulations, and duties and tariffs related to solar/BESS equipment
- Experience leveraging data analytics or Generative AI to improve procurement insights and workflows
