Senior Virtual Testing & Simulation Quality Assurance Engineer – Mechatronics, Sustainable Packaging & Robotics Systems at arenaflex
About arenaflex – Pioneering the Future of Intelligent Automation
At arenaflex, we are redefining how goods move, are packaged, and are delivered across the globe. Our mission is to blend cutting‑edge robotics, advanced mechatronics, and sustainable packaging solutions into a seamless fulfillment ecosystem that reduces waste, accelerates speed, and enhances safety. As a leader in the automation industry, arenaflex invests heavily in research, simulation, and real‑world testing to ensure every product we ship meets the highest standards of reliability, efficiency, and environmental stewardship. If you thrive in an iterative, fast‑paced environment where innovation is celebrated and tangible impact is visible, you have found your next career destination.
Position Overview
The Virtual Testing & Simulation – Quality Assurance role sits at the heart of arenaflex’s Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging (MSP) team. You will design, develop, and execute high‑fidelity virtual platforms that emulate real‑world hardware, software, and material interactions. By leveraging hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) environments, design‑of‑experiment (DOE) methodologies, and automated test frameworks, you will validate end‑to‑end solutions before they ever touch a physical robot or packaging line. This position partners closely with product engineers, manual QA teams, and internal customers—including operations, maintenance, and process engineering—to guarantee that every new solution is ready for deployment, integration, and long‑term support.
Key Responsibilities
Virtual Platform Development & Execution
- Design, implement, and maintain simulation environments that replicate full‑scale robotic cells, autonomous vehicles, sortation systems, and packaging equipment using real production software.
- Develop and run hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) test rigs that integrate actual control code, sensor models, and material properties to achieve near‑real‑world fidelity.
- Create automated test suites that execute thousands of design‑of‑experiment scenarios, rapidly identifying performance limits and failure modes.
Quality Assurance & Standards Management
- Define quantitative quality metrics for functionality, reliability, maintainability, training, deployment, and serviceability across hardware, software, and material domains.
- Communicate these standards to cross‑functional product teams, ensuring alignment on expectations for hardware design, control algorithms, and packaging material compatibility.
- Coordinate with the manual QA testing group to synchronize virtual and physical test plans, guaranteeing comprehensive coverage.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Feedback Integration
- Partner with internal customers—Operations, Robotics & Mechanical Engineering (RME), Advanced Control & Engineering Services (ACES), Process Engineering (PE), Operations Engineering (OpsEng), Worldwide Design (WWDE), and Supply Chain—to capture real‑world requirements and feedback.
- Analyze recurring defects across product lines, root‑cause issues, and drive corrective actions that improve future design cycles.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate regulations, ensuring all virtual testing adheres to safety and environmental guidelines.
Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Sharing
- Document simulation models, test procedures, and results in a centralized knowledge base for future reuse.
- Mentor junior engineers on simulation best practices, HIL setup, and automated testing techniques.
- Stay abreast of emerging simulation tools, AI‑driven validation methods, and industry standards to keep arenaflex at the technological forefront.
Essential Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience developing simulation or modeling solutions for large, cross‑functional engineering teams.
- Domain Expertise: Proven background in fulfillment systems, including storage equipment, material handling automation, sortation technology, and robotic integration.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with simulation platforms (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS, Gazebo), HIL frameworks, and scripting languages such as Python or C++.
- Analytical Ability: Strong problem‑solving capabilities, with a track record of diagnosing complex system interactions and delivering data‑driven recommendations.
- Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, meet tight deadlines, and coordinate across geographically dispersed teams.
- Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel up to 70% to arenaflex fulfillment sites, research labs, and partner facilities for on‑site validation and stakeholder engagement.
Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills
- Experience with high‑speed manufacturing equipment, advanced packaging technologies, and robotic manipulation systems.
- Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for automated testing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear articulation of technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
- Leadership experience in guiding cross‑disciplinary teams through complex validation cycles.
- Knowledge of sustainability metrics and eco‑design principles applied to packaging and material selection.
Core Competencies for Success
- Detail‑Oriented Mindset: Meticulous attention to data integrity, test configuration, and documentation.
- Collaboration: Ability to build trust with engineers, operators, and senior leadership, fostering a culture of shared responsibility for quality.
- Abstract Thinking: Comfort working with high‑level system models, translating abstract requirements into concrete test scenarios.
- Time Management: Prioritizing tasks effectively to balance long‑term research initiatives with immediate project deadlines.
- Adaptability: Thriving in ambiguous environments where requirements evolve rapidly and innovative solutions are required.
