[Remote] Immigration Attorney (Paralegal and Legal Assistant Duties)

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. New Frontier Immigration Law is a mid-sized law firm dedicated to humanitarian-based immigration solutions. They are seeking a licensed Immigration Attorney to provide paralegal and legal assistant support to U.S.-based immigration attorneys, working on humanitarian immigration cases remotely during the U.S. evening hours.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assemble complex immigration applications including I-130, I-485, I-751, I-601A, VAWA (I-360), U visa (I-918), T visa (I-914), SIJS petitions, asylum applications (I-589), and naturalization (N-400)
  • Review client intake information and organize supporting documentation (birth certificates, marriage certificates, police records, medical records, affidavits, etc.)
  • Draft cover letters, legal memoranda, and case summaries for attorney review
  • Prepare evidentiary exhibits and organize them according to USCIS filing requirements
  • Conduct legal research on immigration law, case precedents, country conditions, and USCIS policy guidance
  • Draft declarations, affidavits, and hardship statements for humanitarian cases
  • Research state-specific requirements for SIJS predicate orders and family court filings
  • Prepare legal briefs and memoranda on complex immigration issues
  • Prepare removal defense packages including asylum applications, cancellation of removal filings, and bond motions
  • Organize evidence for Immigration Court hearings (Master Calendar and Individual Hearings)
  • Draft motions to terminate, motions to reopen, and motions to reconsider
  • Compile country conditions evidence and expert witness materials
  • Review applications for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with USCIS requirements
  • Conduct internal quality checks before attorney final review
  • Ensure all deadlines are tracked and cases are filed timely
  • Maintain organized digital case files using Filevine case management software
  • Draft client correspondence and case status updates for attorney approval
  • Prepare interview preparation materials for USCIS interviews
  • Translate documents (if applicable language skills)
  • Assist with client document collection requests
  • Provide detailed case notes and handoff summaries for U.S. attorneys each morning
  • Participate in virtual team meetings (may require flexibility for U.S. business hours occasionally)
  • Collaborate with U.S.-based paralegals and attorneys through Slack, arenaflex Teams, or similar platforms
  • Flag urgent issues or questions for attorney attention Skills
  • J.D. or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution in your country
  • Active bar license or legal practice authorization in South Africa, India, or the Philippines
  • Must be a licensed attorney (not just paralegal certification)
  • Minimum 3 years of legal experience (immigration law experience preferred but not required)
  • Experience with document preparation, legal research, and case management
  • Familiarity with U.S. immigration law is a strong plus (USCIS forms, EOIR procedures, etc.)
  • Paralegal, legal assistant, or document preparation experience in any legal field is valuable
  • Exceptional attention to detail - Immigration applications require precision
  • Strong legal writing in English (native or near-native fluency required)
  • Legal research skills using online databases (Westlaw, LexisNexis, arenaflex Scholar, etc.)
  • Organizational skills - Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously
  • Tech proficiency - arenaflex Office, arenaflex Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, case management software
  • Self-starter mentality - Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Cultural sensitivity - Comfort working with diverse immigrant populations and trauma-informed approach
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection
  • Quiet, professional home office setup
  • Computer capable of running case management software (Filevine)
  • Availability during required work hours (your daytime = U.S. evening)
  • U.S. immigration law knowledge - Prior experience with USCIS forms, VAWA, U visas, asylum, removal defense
  • Spanish, Portuguese, French, Hindi, Tagalog, or other language fluency (in addition to English)
  • Experience with U.S. legal systems - Previous work with U.S. law firms or immigration organizations
  • Filevine or similar case management software experience (Clio, MyCase, etc.)
  • 5+ years legal experience for senior-level consideration and higher compensation
  • Immigration paralegal certification or specialized training (bonus) Company Overview
