Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our remote data platform team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and operating large‑scale, distributed data processing systems that power real‑time analytics, fraud detection, and personalized customer experiences. You will work closely with product owners, data scientists, and software architects to translate business requirements into robust, high‑performance solutions that run on hybrid cloud environments.
This position reports directly to the Head of Architecture and offers a unique opportunity to influence the technical direction of arenaflex’s data strategy while mentoring a talented group of engineers across multiple locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and maintain distributed data processing pipelines that handle billions of events per day with sub‑second latency.
- Design and implement scalable data storage solutions using NoSQL technologies such as Cassandra and Elasticsearch, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define data models, APIs, and service contracts that meet both functional and non‑functional requirements.
- Lead the creation of proof‑of‑concept (POC) prototypes to evaluate emerging technologies, including streaming platforms like Kafka and container orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
- Drive continuous improvement by incorporating best practices in DevOps, CI/CD, and automated testing into the data engineering lifecycle.
- Mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance, and foster a culture of knowledge sharing and peer review.
- Stay current with industry trends, open‑source innovations, and regulatory changes that impact data security, privacy, and compliance.
- Participate in on‑call rotations and incident response, ensuring rapid resolution of production issues while maintaining system reliability.
- Contribute to architectural documentation, design reviews, and technical roadmaps that align with arenaflex’s strategic objectives.
Essential Qualifications

- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with a track record of presenting technical concepts to senior leadership and non‑technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills
- Advanced experience in real‑time data streaming and analytics platforms (e.g., Kafka Streams, Apache Flink).
- Hands‑on experience building microservices and APIs using RESTful or gRPC protocols.
- Knowledge of continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible, and monitoring solutions like Prometheus and Grafana.
- Background in designing fault‑tolerant, highly available systems that meet stringent security and compliance standards (PCI‑DSS, GDPR).
- Experience mentoring teams, conducting code reviews, and establishing engineering best practices.
- Strong understanding of memory models, concurrency, and performance optimization in Java/Scala environments.
- Passion for open‑source contributions and community involvement, with a willingness to represent arenaflex at conferences and meetups.
