Work from home Full-time role Hiring

About arenaflex

arenaflex is a global leader in retail technology, empowering millions of shoppers every day through innovative data‑driven solutions. Our mission is to transform the retail experience by turning massive data sets into actionable insights that improve the lives of customers, merchants, and partners worldwide. As part of arenaflex’s Data Ventures team, you will join a community of engineers, analysts, and product visionaries who are shaping the future of retail through cutting‑edge data engineering, cloud technologies, and advanced analytics.

Why This Role Matters

Retail is evolving at breakneck speed, and the ability to collect, process, and analyze data in real time is the competitive edge that separates industry leaders from the rest. As a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will design and maintain the data pipelines that power critical business decisions, from inventory optimization to personalized shopper experiences. Your work will directly influence the strategic direction of one of the world’s largest retail ecosystems, delivering measurable impact for millions of customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Ingestion & Transformation: Build robust, scalable pipelines that ingest raw data from diverse sources (POS systems, e‑commerce platforms, IoT devices) and transform it into clean, structured datasets ready for analysis.
  • Data Modeling & Architecture: Design logical and physical data models, including data warehouses, data lakes, and dimensional schemas that support both ad‑hoc queries and high‑performance reporting.
  • Pipeline Orchestration: Implement and maintain workflow orchestration using tools such as Apache Airflow, Automic, or equivalent, ensuring reliable end‑to‑end data flow.
  • Cloud Platform Expertise: Deploy and manage data solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Azure, leveraging services like BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, and Cloud Storage.
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization: Continuously monitor pipeline performance, identify bottlenecks, and apply best‑in‑class optimization techniques to reduce latency and cost.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with data scientists, business analysts, product managers, and merchant support teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Code Quality & Testing: Write clean, maintainable code in Python, PySpark, Scala, or Java; develop unit, integration, and regression tests; and enforce coding standards through peer reviews.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Produce comprehensive documentation, data dictionaries, and runbooks; mentor junior engineers and contribute to community of practice initiatives.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of emerging technologies (e.g., Delta Lake, DataBricks, Kafka Streams) and propose enhancements that drive efficiency, reliability, and scalability.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience designing and implementing large‑scale data pipelines.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Scala, or Java) and strong command of SQL.
  • Hands‑on experience with distributed computing frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, or Flink.
  • Demonstrated expertise with cloud data services (GCP, Azure, or AWS) and data warehousing solutions (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift).
  • Solid understanding of data modeling concepts, including star/snowflake schemas, OLAP cubes, and data lake architecture.
  • Experience with streaming platforms (Kafka, Pub/Sub) and real‑time data processing.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities, analytical mindset, and the capacity to work independently in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or advanced certifications in data engineering, cloud architecture, or big data technologies.
  • Experience with DataBricks, Delta Lake, or similar unified analytics platforms.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) and relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform, Cloud Deployment Manager).
  • Previous exposure to retail or e‑commerce data domains, including inventory, pricing, or customer behavior analytics.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Acumen: Mastery of data engineering tools, cloud platforms, and programming languages.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect complex data problems, identify root causes, and devise elegant solutions.
  • Collaboration: Proven track record of working cross‑functionally with diverse teams across geography and time zones.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable navigating a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Leadership: Mentor junior engineers, lead code reviews, and champion best practices within the data community.
  • Customer‑Centric Mindset: Focus on delivering value that directly improves merchant and shopper experiences.
