Program Overview – Actuarial Development Program

The Actuarial Development Program at arenaflex is a structured, multi‑phase initiative designed to fast‑track emerging talent into the actuarial profession. Although advertised as a part‑time remote opportunity, the program delivers a full‑time learning experience, immersing participants in real‑world projects that impact the core business. Over the course of the program, you will rotate through four distinct phases—Risk Assessment, Rate Recording, Reserve Analysis, and Pricing & Product Design—each providing hands‑on exposure to actuarial methodologies, data analytics, and strategic decision‑making.

This program not only builds technical actuarial competencies but also accelerates your overall career trajectory by pairing formal training with mentorship from seasoned actuaries. You will gain a balanced perspective on how actuarial insights drive product development, pricing strategies, and risk management across arenaflex’s health‑care portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Risk Assessment: Analyze specific risk factors, develop loss models, and present findings to senior leadership to inform underwriting decisions.
  • Rate Recording: Collect, clean, and validate large data sets; prepare and submit critical reports for regulatory filings and internal audits.
  • Reserve Analysis: Evaluate reserve adequacy, monitor claim trends, and assess the impact of emerging risks on financial statements.
  • Pricing & Product Design: Build actuarial pricing models for new health‑care products, conduct profitability analyses, and recommend pricing adjustments.
  • Technical Solution Development: Design and implement analytical tools using SAS, Python, R, SQL, or VBA to automate repetitive tasks and improve data accuracy.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with cross‑functional teams—including underwriting, finance, product management, and data science—to translate actuarial insights into actionable business recommendations.
  • Continuous Learning: Participate in formal training modules, actuarial exam preparation support, and mentorship sessions to progress toward professional actuarial credentials.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a demonstrated ability to work with large data sets and perform statistical analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting complex concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Willingness to relocate to a designated actuarial hub if required, or ability to work remotely with occasional on‑site collaboration.
  • Eligibility for work‑visa sponsorship (including CPT, OPT, and F‑1 visa programs) for international candidates.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous internship or entry‑level experience supporting actuarial functions within an insurance or health‑care organization.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as SAS, Python, R, or SQL; familiarity with VBA or Excel modeling is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment, meet tight deadlines, and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with a data‑driven approach to identifying root causes and recommending solutions.
  • Team‑oriented attitude with a proven track record of contributing to a positive, collaborative workplace culture.

arenaflex is committed to your professional growth. As part of the Actuarial Development Program, you will receive:

  • Structured mentorship from senior actuaries who will guide you through exam preparation and career planning.
  • Access to a comprehensive library of actuarial study materials, online courses, and industry webinars.
  • Opportunities to present project outcomes to executive leadership, building confidence and visibility within the organization.
  • Clear pathways to transition into full‑time actuarial roles after successful completion of the program and attainment of actuarial exams.
  • Cross‑training experiences that expose you to related disciplines such as data science, finance, and product management.
