Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day tasks will involve:

  • Reviewing Patient Care Summaries (PCS) and Pre-Hospital Care Reports (PCRs) to extract vital medical information, such as medical histories, diagnoses, and treatments, while coding these details with specificity.
  • Selecting and entering the correct CPT, HCPCS, modifier, and ICD-10 codes based on clinical information, ensuring compliance with regulations and payer requirements.
  • Communicating with clients and payors as needed to verify claim details, resolve coding discrepancies, and ensure reimbursements are processed without delays.
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with management to address any coding issues that may arise, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in workflow.
  • Submitting accurately coded claims to the clearinghouse promptly to aid in timeliness of reimbursements, and addressing rejected claims on a daily basis for swift resolution.
  • Staying current with coding updates in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Handling sensitive medical information in adherence to HIPAA guidelines, ensuring the confidentiality of patient records at all times.
  • Participating in ongoing training to enhance coding skills and knowledge, particularly regarding Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance coding guidelines.
  • Executing additional tasks as assigned, contributing to the continued efficiency of the coding and billing process.

Patient Population / Client Focus Your expertise in ambulance coding will directly impact patients who rely on emergency medical services. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that claims are accurately coded, allowing for timely payments that support healthcare providers in delivering essential services to the community.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • A Certified Ambulance Coder (CAC) certification or the willingness to become certified within 90 days of your start date.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in ambulance and/or medical coding.
  • Excellent typing skills and proficiency in 10-key data entry for efficient coding input.
  • A working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding systems to facilitate accurate claim processing.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex medical records and assign codes appropriately.
  • An attention to detail and commitment to precision in all aspects of coding and billing.

Preferred Experience Ideal candidates may also have:

  • Experience working within a clearinghouse environment.
  • A proven record of providing exceptional customer service.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications as a tool for data management and reporting.
  • The ability to operate independently and manage multiple priorities while meeting critical deadlines.
