This is a hands-on manager role focused on reviewing business returns, handling owners’ 1040s, and advising small-to-mid-size entrepreneurs on practical tax strategy. The Role Tax Manager – Closely Held Businesses & Their Owners Most of the work centers on reviewing S-Corp and partnership returns—and the related 1040s for the business owners . You’ll lead planning conversations, advise on structure and compensation strategy, and support clients with multi-entity and practical day-to-day tax needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and manage 1040, 1120S, 1065, and related entity/owner filings
- Lead planning conversations with business owners
- Advise on entity structure, elections, compensation strategy, and multistate issues
- Identify practical planning opportunities (basis, distributions, reasonable comp, etc.)
- Mentor junior staff and help maintain a calm, organized workflow
- Collaborate with leadership on more complex clients and projects
Ideal Candidate
- 5–10+ years in public accounting with strong experience in pass-throughs and closely held businesses
- Confident reviewing both entity returns and related owner 1040s
- Strong communicator who enjoys direct client interaction
- Comfortable in a remote, paperless, tech-enabled environment
- CPA or EA required; advanced credentials are a plus
