Independent Contractor, Creative Strategist, Patient EngagementWhat You'll DoAs an Independent Contractor, Creative Strategist, Patient Engagement you will support Vaniam Group’s Patient Engagement team. You will bring creative expertise and a deep understanding of the patient experience to the development of impactful, patient-centered communications. You will work collaboratively with internal teams to develop compelling content and creative assets that reflect the voice, needs, and journeys of patients across oncology and hematology therapeutic areas.A Day in the Life | Deliverables
  • Develop patient-facing creative materials including but not limited to digital content, print collateral, educational resources, infographics, and social assets
  • Translate complex medical and clinical information into clear, accessible, and emotionally resonant content for patient and caregiver audiences
  • Support the development and execution of patient engagement programs, including advisory boards, patient ambassador initiatives, and disease awareness campaigns
  • Ensure all creative deliverables are aligned with client brand standards, regulatory requirements, and medical communications best practices
  • Collaborate with scientific communications, medical strategy, and account teams to ensure content accuracy and strategic alignment
  • Incorporate, where applicable, patient review or validation processes
  • Prepare final files for both digital and print production 

Must Have | Patient‑Facing Design Expertise

  • Demonstrated experience designing patient‑ or caregiver‑facing materials in healthcare, life sciences, advocacy, or related fields
  • Strong instinct for what patient‑facing work should look like (clarity, tone, accessibility, visual hierarchy)
  • Ability to simplify complex scientific or data‑driven content without oversimplifying or misrepresenting the science
  • Familiarity with health‑literacy principles and accessibility considerations (plain language, visual clarity, readability)
Internal Responsibility
  • Work independently with minimal oversight, delivering high-quality work within agreed timelines
  • Participate in briefings, feedback sessions, and cross-functional and/or client calls as needed
  • Maintain awareness of patient engagement trends, health literacy best practices, and evolving regulatory guidance
Business Development
  • Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, capabilities presentations, and new business initiatives as needed

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in communications, health communications, graphic design, or a related field preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in medical communications, healthcare marketing, or patient engagement
  • Direct experience developing patient-facing content within a pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical communications agency context
  • Familiarity with oncology, hematology and/or rare therapeutic areas strongly preferred
  • Understanding of regulatory and compliance considerations in patient communications (e.g., fair balance, medical-legal review processes)
Skills and Competencies
  • Exceptional creative and conceptual skills with a strong portfolio of patient-facing work
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop required; Figma strongly preferred)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively in a dynamic, virtual environment
  • Strong understanding of health literacy principles and patient-centered communication strategies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize workload effectively across multiple projects and clients
  • Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Results-oriented with a commitment to delivering high-quality, compliant work
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
