Hours are generally 8:30 - 5:30pm Monday-Friday with some flexibility.

Job Description

Fully Remote Special Education Director Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Special Education Director to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our special education programs comply with legal requirements and that our staff is well-supported and trained in Special Education activities and compliance needs. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for supporting students, families, and staff.  This position is 100% virtual. Hours are generally 8:30 - 5:30pm Monday-Friday with some flexibility.  

Key Responsibilities:

Program Management:

    Develop, implement, and evaluate special education programs to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

    Oversee the development and monitoring of IEPs, ensuring timelines are met and services are effective.

    Foster positive relationships with parents, students, staff, vendor providers, and SELPA.

    Ensure compliance with IDEA and other relevant laws.

    Prepare and submit required reports to state and federal agencies.

    Effectively use SEIS and CALPADS systems for compliance documentation.

Compliance Monitoring:

    Conduct regular reviews and audits of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and other special education documents to ensure legal compliance.

    Monitor and maintain accurate records of compliance-related documentation.

    Identify compliance gaps and collaborate on corrective action plans for staff struggling with compliance items.

    Attend SELPA Professional Learning Network (PLN) meetings monthly.

    Monitor and identify vendor providers (NPA) as needed to meet student service requirements.

    Oversee and maintain assessment process timelines, including IEE assessment requests.

    Maintain organized and efficient documentation systems accessible to all providers.

Documentation and Reporting:

    Prepare compliance reports 

    Maintain organized records of compliance documentation, including within the CALPADS system.

    Develop and maintain documentation folders to respond accurately to records requests and assessment plans.

    Ensure staff complete required documentation accurately and timely within Trivium/state/county/SELPA systems.

    Recommend policy and procedure updates to increase efficiency.

Staff Supervision and Development:

    Recruit, hire, train, and supervise special education teachers and support staff.

    Provide ongoing professional development to enhance staff skills and knowledge.

    Cultivate a positive, solution-oriented culture within the SPED Department.

    Provide direction and accountability across all SPED department areas.

    Develop and deliver training to support general and special education staff in understanding their roles in special education compliance.

    Provide ongoing coaching and support to staff members to enhance their compliance knowledge.

    Stay updated on changes in special education laws and regulations, providing training accordingly.

    Promptly address compliance-related questions.

    Manage instructional aides and other staff assigned to tasks within the Special Education department.

    Oversee special education teachers, including managing their calendars, IEP planning, implementation, and quality control of SAI sessions.

    Provide feedback to the special education team and leadership to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

    Attend IEP meetings as needed for coverage or training.

    Lead or participate in scheduled special education trainings and meetings.

Collaboration:

    Collaborate with school leaders, teachers, and support staff to develop and implement strategies for improving compliance.

    Work closely with the education team to address individual student needs and ensure the provision of appropriate services.

    Promote inclusive education practices through collaboration with school administrators, teachers, and support staff.

    Serve as a liaison between Trivium and parents, addressing concerns related to special education services.

Budget Management:

    Develop and manage the special education budget, ensuring effective and appropriate resource allocation.

    Offer appropriate options for families and staff to meet student needs.

Communication:

    Communicate clearly and effectively, maintaining quality interactions that support a healthy and effective culture.

Starting salary is $105,000 depending on experience.
