Position Highlights: Position Title: Case and Contact Investigator (Epidemiologist I) Location: Remote Position End Date: 7/31/26 Salary: $85,000 Overview: The CDC Foundation is seeking an Epidemiologist I Case and Contact Investigator to work under the direction of the Epi Investigation Lead. Key responsibilities include planning, developing, and conducting epidemiologic investigations, surveillance, and interventions of limited scope or complexity to identify disease causes and apply control measures. Findings will be shared with the team using established communication tools. This role may require flexible work hours, including evenings and weekends, during emergency response periods. Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, or a closely related field.
  • Understanding of epidemiological study design, data collection, data analysis, and data presentation.
  • Knowledge of standard descriptive statistical methods.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of biostatistics, including proficiency with statistical software and programming languages.
  • Strong computer skills, including database design, management, and data manipulation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the collection and analysis of statistical data, disease characteristics, medical assessments, laboratory results, and other information to detect trends, inform prevention or containment strategies, and produce technical reports.
  • Assists in monitoring disease outbreaks and evaluating proposed containment strategies. Helps assess disease control programs in public health facilities, child care centers, nursing homes, and other institutions, and recommends improvements.
  • Responds to inquiries from healthcare providers and the public about communicable or environmental health risks.
  • Participates in studies and investigations of environmental exposures to assess their effects on human health, conducts health surveys, and issues health education guidance.
  • Assists in preparing public presentations on disease hazards, outbreaks, and control measures.
  • Helps design, carry out, and assess demographic, environmental, and epidemiologic studies addressing public health issues to identify risks, population characteristics, and ways to prevent recurrence.
  • Assists with requests for public presentations on communicable or environmental disease hazards, outbreaks, and control programs.

Special Notes: This role supports a dynamic public health initiative, and responsibilities may shift as needs evolve. Any changes to the duties listed above will be approved in writing by both the CDC Foundation and the South Carolina Department of Public Health to ensure alignment with state public health priorities. This position is currently remote, though the CDC Foundation may adjust this as necessary.
