Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Data Entry Operator to join our team at arenaflex's Mineola, NY location. As a Data Entry Operator, you will be responsible for performing clerical and support activities necessary to assist in laboratory operations and specimen registration. You will serve as a communications resource and facilitate the transfer of information both internally and externally. You will also assist medical, nursing, and administrative staff to meet unit, department, and institutional goals.

Key Responsibilities

* Performs other duties as assigned

• Notifies appropriate personnel in cases of unacceptable samples (e.g., mislabeled, unlabeled, discrepant information) and records all specific information in the appropriate department incident log
• Prioritizes work in an efficient manner, registering to acquire appropriate billing account numbers for date of service and accessing pathology specimens to acquire appropriate laboratory accession case numbers in a timely and accurate manner
• Resolves problems with specimen receipt and appropriateness of test requisitions/orders
• Accurately monitors pertinent patient demographics and information (e.g., lab test results) to the appropriate designated department (e.g., RN, Manager, or Designee)
• Assists in the training of new clerical/accessioning staff by coaching and mentoring
• Adheres to the laboratory's Quality Assurance policies and procedures and follows OSHA regulations for PPE (Personnel Protective Equipment) such as lab coats, gloves, and protective shields when in contact with blood and body fluids
• Documents via log any specimen receipt issues and hospital and laboratory computer systems for either registration and/or accessioning

Minimum Qualifications

* High School or GED

• Good communication (both oral and written), organization, detail-oriented, and customer service skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

* Associate's Degree in Business or related field

• 1-2 years of related experience
• 1-2 years of coding/billing/registration/insurance experience
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Ability to utilize hospital and laboratory computer systems for either registration and/or accessioning

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
