Disability Advocacy Project (DAP) Staff Attorney - Albany Office
The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York is seeking a Disability Advocacy Project (DAP) Staff Attorney to champion the rights of individuals facing challenges in the community. This role involves providing legal representation and assistance in Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income claims, while collaborating with a team to develop innovative strategies tailored to clients' needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal representation and assistance in Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims
- May be assigned cases involving eligibility for public assistance and Medicaid benefits
- Collaborate with a passionate team, engaging in brainstorming sessions to develop innovative strategies and solutions tailored to each client's unique situation
- Participate in training and advocacy initiatives, ensuring skills and knowledge remain sharp
- Build strong relationships with clients while navigating complex legal landscapes
Skills
- Admitted to the NYS Bar or eligible to sit for the NYS Bar exam
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality legal services to various civil matters
- Effective communication skills to engage compassionately with clients and collaborate seamlessly with colleagues
- Organized and able to work independently and efficiently, managing multiple cases while meeting deadlines
- Strong computer skills, including accurate data entry
- Valid driver's license and access to a car for outreach and client visits across the service area
- Prior legal experience in Social Security Administration disability representation
- Being multilingual, especially in Spanish
