Responsibilities
As a Crisis Counselor Chat Specialist, you will be responsible for:
- Providing real-time, compassionate, non-judgmental crisis support to clients through our online chat service, utilizing your exceptional listening and communication skills to de-escalate crises and promote emotional well-being.
- Attending initial trainings and all-staff meetings during daytime hours 1-2 times per month, ensuring you stay up-to-date on best practices, policies, and procedures.
- Dispatching additional client services, such as Mobile Crisis Outreach, when necessary, to provide comprehensive support and ensure seamless transitions.
- Documenting each chat contact to ensure quality record keeping, maintaining accurate and detailed records of client interactions.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree in human services or any field, plus one year of relevant experience, or a master's degree in a human service-related field.
- Comfort using basic computer software, including typing and data entry skills, with the ability to type quickly and multi-task.
- Excellent writing and grammar skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in writing.
- A private home office to ensure confidentiality and reliable, high-speed internet at home.
Nice-to-haves
While not required, the following skills and experiences are highly desirable:
- Experience in crisis services, including working with individuals in crisis and providing support during traumatic events.
- Education or training in trauma-informed care, strengths-based practices, conflict resolution, and de-escalation techniques.
- Background in motivational interviewing, with experience in promoting positive change and empowering individuals to make informed decisions.
- Knowledge/experience working in the mental health, substance use, and/or problem gambling field, with a strong understanding of the complexities and challenges faced by individuals in these areas.
