Job Summary

As a Student Services Specialist, you will work closely with the Director of Student Support Services to develop, implement, and evaluate programs and initiatives that support student success and retention. This role requires a strong understanding of academic support services, with a focus on tutoring, academic advising, and retention strategies. You will also provide support for the supervision, coordination, and evaluation of tutoring services, including tutor hiring, training, and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

* Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of student support services, with a focus on academic success and retention

  • Provide support for the supervision, coordination, and evaluation of tutoring services, including tutor hiring, training, and evaluation
  • Conduct writing skills assessments for students, provide writing instruction, and offer writing tutoring to students in individual and small group settings
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement retention strategies, including early alert systems and student success plans
  • Analyze data and program evaluations to inform decision-making and improve student outcomes
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and organizations to support student success and retention
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in student support services and retention

Essential Qualifications

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, English Education, or a related field

  • Experience in instructing and/or tutoring students, preferably at the post-secondary level
  • Strong understanding of academic support services, including tutoring, academic advising, and retention strategies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to analyze data and program evaluations to inform decision-making and improve student outcomes
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's degree in English, English Education, or a related field

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in instructing and/or tutoring at the post-secondary level
  • Knowledge or experience working in TRIO or other student support programs
  • Familiarity with retention issues and strategies
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software applications
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits
