Walmart's Information Design team is responsible for managing the company's vast amounts of data, building pipelines and data lakes to prepare huge data for analysis, and unlocking noteworthy insights in real-time. The team uses cross-departmental data and AI to construct a holistic perspective of obvious benefit, saving thousands of dollars across item categories and geographies while helping leadership make better decisions faster.

Job Summary

As a Data Entry Specialist with Walmart's Information Design team, you'll work with the Application Development team to implement data strategies, build data streams, and develop sustainable data models. You'll create logical and physical data models using best practices to ensure high data quality and support application, team, and interactive use cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Application Development team to implement data strategies, build data streams, and develop sustainable data models
  • Create logical and physical data models using best practices to ensure high data quality and support application, team, and interactive use cases
  • Develop, enhance, and update logical and physical data models to support new and existing projects according to organizational guidelines
  • Design data modeling solutions optimized for social, layered, and NoSQL databases
  • Maintain applied, logical, and physical data models along with corresponding metadata
  • Develop best practices for standard naming conventions and coding practices to ensure consistency of data models
  • Suggest opportunities for reuse of data models in new environments
  • Perform reverse engineering of physical data models from databases and SQL scripts
  • Assess data models and physical databases for changes and errors
  • Validate business information objects for accuracy and completeness
  • Analyze data-related system integration challenges and propose suitable solutions
  • Guide System Analysts, Architects, Software Engineers, and others on project limits and capacities, performance requirements, and interfaces
  • Review adjustments to existing software to improve productivity and performance
  • Examine new application design and suggest remedies whenever required

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Great academic record and graduation (B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech/MBA)
  • At least 10+ years of hands-on data warehousing experience
  • Strong knowledge of various data modeling techniques for data warehousing - 3NF, Layered, hybrid, etc.
  • Experience working with huge (100 TB+) scale data warehouses (DW)/operational data stores (ODS)
  • Critical involvement with building data models for MPP, Social, and NoSQL technologies, such as BigData, Hive, SQL*Server, Hadoop, Cassandra, Cloud DBs like Big Query or Snowflake
  • Great experience working with universally distributed teams in a cooperative and productive way
  • Amazing relational and relational skills across a variety of stakeholders, ability to negotiate with and influence others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Illustrated experience in data modeling, graduate degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Systems, or relevant industry experience (e.g., retail, supply chain, e-commerce, healthcare, etc.)
