AAPC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Online Teaching Assistant (TA) to support their Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) programs, specifically for the Certified Professional Biller (CPB) training course. As a TA, you will play a vital role in mentoring students, guiding them through the course material, and providing feedback on their progress. This is a contract position that offers a competitive salary and the opportunity to work remotely.

As an Online Teaching Assistant, you will be an integral part of our team, supporting students as they navigate our VILT programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one mentoring to assigned students in the CPB course, guiding them through the course material and providing feedback on their progress.
  • Observe and evaluate individual student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, practical assignments, quizzes, and examinations.
  • Use AAPC's learning management system to access syllabus, assignments, and other materials, and to communicate with students.
  • Participate in live sessions using AAPC's virtual classroom platform, assisting faculty conducting the session and providing technical support as needed.
  • Mentor students using a variety of teaching styles, providing interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate real-world applications of concepts covered.
  • Be available for student consultation through office hours or scheduled appointments using AAPC's virtual platform or by phone or email.
  • Attend orientation sessions to become familiar with AAPC's policies and procedures, and the learning management system.
  • Respond to student coaching questions within 48 hours of receiving questions.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Current and valid certification in Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and Certified Professional Biller (CPB).
  • Prior teaching experience in corporate training, particularly to adult students, is desirable.
  • Prior experience teaching online is desirable.
  • 2-3 years of production coding or auditing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the essential qualifications, we prefer candidates with:

  • Experience teaching fully online or in a hybrid format.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching adult learners.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring students.

Skills and Competencies Required

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • Current knowledge of the relevant discipline (medical coding and billing).
  • Ability to use technology effectively in teaching, including AAPC's learning management system and virtual classroom platform.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Good organizational skills and timeliness in responding to student inquiries.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with students and colleagues.
