Work from home Full-time role Hiring

Join Our Team: Shaping the Future of Veterinary Education

At the Surrey Vet School, we're passionate about delivering innovative clinical veterinary education through our high-quality network of clinical practices. We're seeking an experienced and dedicated Lecturer in Veterinary Clinical Practice (LVCP) to join our dynamic team in the equine section. As a remote role, you'll have the flexibility to work from home while making a significant impact on the next generation of veterinary professionals.

About Us

Our Intramural Rotation Team is built on five core values: Collegial, Passionate, Creative, Supportive, and Inspiring. We're committed to partnering with the profession to provide authentic, relevant, and student-centred clinical veterinary education. Our team of clinical tutors, including LVCPs, plays a vital role in overseeing the development and evaluation of final-year students as they attain day-one competences.

The Role

As a Lecturer in Veterinary Clinical Practice (Equine), you'll be responsible for:

  • Providing oversight of individual development and evaluation of final-year students through regular practice visits and one-to-one feedback and coaching.
  • Supporting practice-based trained clinical mentors in the delivery of our Intramural Rotation (IMR) module.
  • Overseeing the successful development of students' portfolios and playing a key role in the assessment of final-year students.
  • Remediating students where necessary to ensure they meet the required competences.
  • Participating in teacher training and other activities, which may require occasional visits to our Guildford campus.

Essential and Preferred Qualifications

We're looking for someone with:

  • Experience in equine practice (additional experience with other species is advantageous).
  • An intuitive passion for teaching and a willingness to develop your academic skills.
  • Prior teaching experience (not essential but advantageous).
  • A veterinary qualification and registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

While prior academic experience is not required, we're committed to providing you with the necessary training and support to excel in your role.

Skills and Competencies

To succeed as an LVCP, you'll need:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, clinical mentors, and other stakeholders.
  • A strong understanding of veterinary clinical practice and the ability to stay up-to-date with industry developments.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a remote team, with flexibility and adaptability.
  • A passion for delivering high-quality education and a commitment to student-centred learning.

Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits

As a member of our team, you'll have access to:

  • Opportunities to follow your own research interests and develop your academic skills.
  • A generous USS pension scheme and substantial holiday allowance (up to 9 weeks).
  • Ongoing training and professional development to support your career growth.
  • A collaborative and supportive work environment that encourages innovation and creativity.

Work Environment and Company Culture

We pride ourselves on our flexible working arrangements, which allow you to balance your work and personal life. As a remote role, you'll have the autonomy to work from home while still being connected to our team and the Surrey Vet School community.

Our culture is built on our five core values, which emphasize the importance of collaboration, passion, creativity, support, and inspiration. We're committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment that fosters growth and development.

Compensation and Benefits

We're offering a competitive salary, plus a 10% mark-up for MRCVS holders. You'll also enjoy:

  • A generous USS pension scheme.
  • Substantial holiday allowance (up to 9 weeks).
  • Opportunities to follow your own research interests and develop your academic skills.
  • A collaborative and supportive work environment.
